How To Start a Blog

How To Start a Blog

Today’s my blog’s second anniversary. It is mad that it’s been two years already since I uploaded my first post. It is also mad how much my life has changed since then. Blogging has become an essential part of my life now, as I honestly need to keep on creating new content. In fact, I personally think that my blog has helped me discover who I am and who I am not. It has made me feel more confident too – I have met so many people thanks to my blog and that is something mind-blowing considering how shy I used to be. Because of all the joy blogging has brought to my life, I thought I could share with you some tips on how to start a blog in case you are interested in having your own space on the Internet.

Just do it

The first thing that you should know is that if you are willing to start your own blog, don’t overthink it. Just do it! Forget about all the excuses that you probably have on your mind. There is nothing you should fear about it as long as you like what you are doing. You should choose which platform you are going to use though, which is going to be a bit difficult at first. There are so many good free options such as WordPress (the one I chose) and Blogger, just find the one that suits you better. However, if you want to take it more seriously, you can also go self-hosted, but you can wait for that.

Build your personal brand

I am not saying that you should start your own business. What I am saying is that you need to find something that differentiates your from other bloggers and have your own style. The blogging community is oversaturated and that’s why we need to be different from the rest. It can be challenging at the beginning, but you will eventually find out what you want to do and how you want to do it. Reading lots of blogs can actually help you with this, as you can see what other people are doing so that you can do something else. You can even try to do the same thing but from another perspective.

Consistency

It is very important to upload regularly. A blog is a space that should be updated quite often because people will always want to read something new. You do not need to upload a post every single day, but you need to do so as frequently as possible. However, you can’t forget that quality is more important than quantity. It is better to create two high-quality blog posts every month than two rushed ones every week. Not only because your readers won’t find that content interesting, but also because you will be writing posts that you don’t enjoy that much.

Create a community

The best thing about blogging is that you can meet lots of new people with the same interests. Your content will be read and some people will leave you comments or send you messages. In general, the feedback that you’ll get will be positive, so why wouldn’t you reply and say thank you? I think it is important to create a friendly atmosphere and connect with people, otherwise, you could just write your posts on a notebook, leave it on a shelf and forget about it. Getting feedback is also quite motivating, as you want to improve so that your readers can have better content.

Be patient

Your blog is not going to have millions of views and followers from the very first day. It takes A LOT of time and effort. It is also very important that you do not get obsessed with stats. Of course they matter when a company wants to work with you, but they are not essential. Most importantly, do not even think about using bots to boost your stats because if you work hard enough, you’ll achieve anything that you want, so there is no need of cheating. Using bots is NOT okay and I consider it very disrespectful towards bloggers that actually make an effort to create good content and grow organically. Visitors and sponsorships should never be the main reason for you to start blogging. Your aim should be doing what you really love and sharing it with other people.

I am definitely not an expert nor a successful blogger (yet haha) but I have learnt all of this during these two amazing years thanks to my own experiences and to being in contact with other bloggers. I hope you’ve found this post useful if you were thinking of starting a blog and if you do start it, let me know because I’d love to have a look at it. I would also like to say thank you for all the amazing support I have been given during all this time. I honestly appreciate all the messages that some of you have sent me. Thanks to you I have been able to work with some cool brands, continue blogging and being creative and, as I said at the beginning of the post, know who I am.
