This is going to be a controversial topic, but I have wanted to talk about this for a long time. Girls wear makeup all the time but what about boys? Society accepts a girl that wears makeup but a boy wearing it is odd and he is probably homosexual, or that’s what most people think. Because of this misconception many men would not even consider giving makeup a go and try it at least once. If you are one of those guys who thinks like that, keep in mind that everyone wears makeup on TV to look better for the camera and that does not mean they are gay (which isn’t something to be ashamed/scared of) nor less masculine. Actually, what is masculinity?
I have recently done a small survey on Twitter and none of the participants said they use makeup all the time, some said they wear it sometimes and others said that they may try it in the future. The results of the survey surprised me to be honest because they made me realise that more men are now willing to at least give it a try. I feel like this is a huge improvement. For me there is nothing wrong with wearing makeup and it should be a tool available for everyone.
Because of the increase in the amount of men interested in makeup, some new companies have been created. One of them is MMUK Man, which is the brand that kindly sent me the products you can see in the photos. What this company does is to provide makeup especially designed for men. Personally, I think that this is only a way of making the idea of using makeup a bit more “manly”. However, even though I will always think that men can easily use any kind of makeup (including girl’s makeup), it is true that companies like this one are helping to get rid of the misconceptions I told you about before.
The kind of products companies like MMUK Man offer are very subtle so that no one can perceive you’ve got makeup on. I really like this idea because I only use it to hide some spots or those ugly dark circles under my eyes. Again, it all depends on what you like because if you want to wear red eyeshadow, you should do it anyway. However, this is a complex topic and men are normally more interested in unnoticeable makeup.
There are multiple options if you want to start using some makeup by the way. The most common one is using a BB Cream, which is basically tinted moisturiser. You can use concealer too, which is one of my favourite products because it is the one that hides your imperfections. I’ve got the concealer stick that you can see above and it works perfectly, especially under my eyes and on my chin. Another option is the trio that you can also see in the photos, for which you will need a blending brush. The last product I have tried is a clear mascara. I am learning a lot because I always thought mascara was black and that there wasn’t any other colour available. It works really well to give your eye lashes a boost. I feel like you should buy some of these products or maybe some others and have fun trying them and exploring what you can do with them too.
The purpose of this post is not to convince you to use makeup every single day of your life. I am not going to use it everyday because I don’t want to. What I want people to realise is that there is nothing wrong with men wearing makeup. It is a way to feel more confident and better about ourselves. It is important to know that if you want, you can wear it and people should not have anything against it and if they do, you shouldn’t care about it. So my answer to the title of this post is YES, they should, but only if they want to. However, I’d love to know what you think about this topic and if you already use some makeup, so please comment down below and give your opinion. Let’s create a little debate.

Hi Zoel,
I think wearing make up is slowly becoming a gender-neautral thing to do. I wear make up once in a while and that’s the norm for me.

Hey! I absolutely agree, I think it’s not a tabú anymore. As I said, no one needs to wear it everyday but people should know that it’s an option. Thanks for reading x
I’m really happy you made this post. Makeup is designed to help make people feel better and more confident, so why shouldn’t men be allowed to feel that way too? x
