Getting More Exposure on Instagram

Getting More Exposure on Instagram

I am not an expert on social media, but I know a few things about it and I have read so much about it too. For this reason, I thought that I could give you some advice on how I think you can get more exposure on Instagram. I decided to talk about Instagram because it is one of my favourite social networks and, mainly, because I have gained a few new followers since I first started to apply everything that I am going to talk about in this post.

The most important thing is creating content. If you don’t post any photo, no one is going to be interested in following you. This is quite obvious. It is also important to post regularly, and even better if you can upload at least a photo every day. This can be a bit challenging, I know, because you need to create a lot of high-quality content. Remember that quality is essential, even more than quantity.

You should also consider when you are going to upload a picture. You can easily check when your followers are active if you have a business account on Instagram, which is quite easy to get. If you don’t have one, you can think of when you are active on Instagram (if you check it regularly) and that will probably be the best time to upload, as everyone checks it at the same time more or less. However, it is not good to upload every day at the same time, because if you change when you upload, the chances that new people discovers your account are higher.

I know some people don’t like them, but hashtags are your friends. You should bear in mind that you cannot abuse. Use the hashtags that best describe your photo and the ones that may attract the kind of audience you want. Also, there are some specific hashtags for some specific topics, such as foodstagram or foodporn for food related photos.

Add a description to the photo too. This is something a lot of people forget to do and, although it is not too important, it helps. Make sure to add a location too, because it will let people around to find the photo. If some products or clothes appear in the picture, tag the brand! Sometimes, they will repost your photo and add your username in the description. This way more people are going to check your account and probably follow you.

Everything I have said is helpful, but I think what really matters is creating a community. Social media has been creative to connect people, so let’s make sure you are connecting with new people. If someone likes your photo, check his or her stuff, you may like it! The same happens if someone leaves a comment on your image. Reply and have a lot at the other person’s profile.

A good way to connect with people is using the ‘Explore’ section. I have found so many amazing accounts thanks to that. Like those photos, comment and follow the accounts you like. I am sure they will check yours too and, eventually, you may gain some new followers. In fact, you may even make some new friends.

This post is part of an Instagram series NamelessJeff and I are doing, so if you want some extra advice on the same topic, you can check his post (here). You can also have a look at my previous posts about how I take and edit my photos (here) and which are my favourite Instagram accounts (here). You can also follow me if you want (here).

I hope you found this post useful, let me know if this works for you. Following this advice doesn’t mean you are going to be successful and that you are going to have millions of followers, but it’s a good start. Make sure to ask me any question in the comments, I’ll try to answer it!

“… anyone is going to be interested in following you”

I think you mean nobody or no one.
