Salted Caramel Brownie

Salted Caramel Brownie

As you probably know, I am the biggest fan of chocolate. Because of this, I decided to make a brownie! The thing is that I wanted to bake one which was a little bit different, so I decided to make this Salted Caramel Brownie. I found the recipe on the BBC Good Food website, which I love because some recipes that you can find there are REALLY good.

Ingredients

  • 200g unsalted butter, plus a little extra for greasing
  • 100g chocolate, 70% cocoa solids
  • 100g chocolate, 50% cocoa solids
  • 397g can Carnation caramel
  • 1 tsp flaky sea salt, plus a little extra for the top
  • 200g golden caster sugar
  • 4 medium eggs
  • 130g plain flour
  • 50g cocoa powder

Let’s go!

The first thing you need to do is to pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Grease then line a 23cm square traybake tin with baking parchment. Put the butter in a pan and melt it. Once it is melted, break in the chocolate (both the 70% and the 50%), remove the pan from heat and let it all melt. In a bowl mix 175g of the caramel with a teaspoon sea salt. In another bowl beat the rest of the caramel, the sugar and the eggs until even. Then add the melted chocolate and butter. Combine the flour, cocoa and a pinch of table salt in another bowl (yes, another one haha). After combining it all, beat it with the chocolate mix until smooth.

Now it is time to pour half of the batter into the tin. You can use a spatula to level it. Then use a teaspoon to spoon half of the salted caramel on top of the batter in 5 thick stripes. Make sure to leave some space between them. After that, spoon the rest of the batter (be careful with the caramel!). Now spoon the rest of the salted caramel in the same way as before. Using the tip of a knife, draw some lines on the caramel to make a feathered pattern on the top. Add a little bit of sea salt on the top and put it in the oven for 25-30 minutes. Make sure it has a crust on the top before you take it out of the oven. Once it is cool, cut it into squares and eat it!

I hope you like this recipe. Some members of my family didn’t because of the sweet-and-salty contrast it has, but I still believe it is yummy! Tell me what you think about it!

To be honest I haven’t read it yet, I started it but had to stop because of my exams… Despite that, I’ve heard really good comments about this book and it is one of the compulsory ones for one of the subjects in my degree haha x

Sweet and salty is such a great combination and when we saw you incorporated that into brownies, we were convinced! Will definitely be trying this soon, thanks for sharing!
